My car has heated seats. It would have been better to learn about this feature before the onset of winter, but someone was “too busy” to read the owner’s manual. Riding as a passenger, my wife pressed something, and I noted the glow of LED lights that I had never seen before. She explained what it was, and I started wondering about other features at my fingertips that I neither recognized nor utilized.
Getting the most out of a car is somewhat important, but it hardly compares to getting the most out of your time of service for the Lord Jesus. Some might also proclaim themselves too busy to read and suffer loss as they go about starved of Scripture. Sadly, others are plagued with deep-seated doubts regarding their relationship to the Savior. Am I really saved? If the matter is left unresolved, the troubled party will doubtless make a mess of things and miss out on so much.
In John 10, Jesus comments, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” But how can one realize an abundance if there is persistent doubt about truly having His life? John R. Van Gelderen addresses this problem in his book, Assurance of Salvation. Having the issue settled in your mind is an important step toward realizing fullness in Him.
